"If something isn't aesthetically pleasing or interesting, doesn't require skills I do not have, and makes a stupid point stupidly, I don't appreciate it as art. That doesn't make me a philistine. It makes me a non-rube."

The One with The Hard Way

31. Title & Author: The Hard Way (A Jack Reacher Novel) by Lee Child (477 pages)*
Genre: Fiction--Thriller
Completed: 12 April 2008

Summary & Review:
A wealthy private military contracter, Edward Lane, enlists the help of protagonist Jack Reacher to find his kidnapped wife and child. As Jack goes about his search, he learns about the questionable past of his new employer and gets wrapped up in something much bigger than a simple kidnapping. Soon, Jack doesn't know who the bad guys and good guys are--or who he should help.

Why are all these characters from series named Jack? There's this Jack and his series, Jack Bauer on the TV show 24, Repairman Jack from the F. Paul Wilson novels, and of course, Jack Shepherd from Lost. Strange. But, this was an entertaining novel. Will ever be studied as a great piece of "literature?" Probably not, but who cares? I enjoyed it. It was full of twists and turns and moved at a good pace the whole way through.
