"If something isn't aesthetically pleasing or interesting, doesn't require skills I do not have, and makes a stupid point stupidly, I don't appreciate it as art. That doesn't make me a philistine. It makes me a non-rube."

The One with Hesiod's Theogony

39. Title & Author: Hesiod's Theogony translated by Richard S. Caldwell (116 pages)
Genre: Mythology--Greek Mythology
Completed: 8 June 2008

Summary & Review:
As the name suggests, this was Hesiod's account of the how the gods of Greek mythology came to be. It recounted the various successions of power until Zeus ultimately comes out on top. The various genealogies of many of the deities are also presented and short, more detailed stories of specific events break up the monotony.

The most interesting part of this volume was the interpretive essay by Caldwell at the the end of the theogony. It took a pretty interesting psychoanalytical view towards the history. But. on the whole, it took endurance to get through the part by Hesiod.
