The One with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

243. Title & Author: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling (341 pages)
Genre: Fiction—Fantasy
Completed: 28 November 2012

Summary & Review:
Spending a summer alone with the Dursley’s left Harry Potter more excited than ever to return to Hogwarts and the magical world of wizards and witches. But, as the year progresses, attacks begin happening targeting the students who do not possess pure magical blood. The fabled Chamber of Secrets has been opened and the monster inside is once again doing its terrible work of cleansing the school of muggle born students. When Harry and Ron’s best friend Hermione is attacked and Dumbledore is removed as head master, they know that they must find the hidden chamber and defeat the monster inside.

This was definitely a step up in writing and story-telling compared to The Sorcerer’s Stone (#233). While it was still very much a young adult fantasy, and not yet the deeper, more nuanced books of the later volumes in the Harry Potter series, it was a step above book one.
