Genre: Nonfiction—Art History
Completed: 2 January 2013
Summary & Review:
Scholar Leonhard Emmerling presents the life and work of American painter Jackson Pollock. Along with an exploration of Pollock’s upbringing and rise to prominence, dozens of full-color reproductions of Pollock’s work are included.
This book was much more well written than several others in this series published by Taschen. Emmerling wrote insightful analyses and coherent arguments while presenting the reader with a good overview of Pollock and his work. But, even with the improvement in writing, I was only marginally entertained because, like so many other modern artists in this series, Pollock’s work doesn’t do much for me. To me, most modern, post-modern, and contemporary art is empty, little more than design or decoration.

We differ so much in our art tastes! I LOVE modern art :)
I like modern art for the most part (like paige), but Pollock has always seemed like sort of a hack to me too.
